Colour Collections

Isn't it amazing how a photo can inspire a whole new creative direction in your life, wardrobe or home? When Alix posted the balloon photos below on her blog, I fell in love with the colour pairings of lavender, black, white and yellow. The black anchors the lavender and keeps it from being too girly while the yellow adds a fun splash of colour. I'm not at all a 'yellow' person but I love the pop of it here. I know I've posted the other pics of mine on Gloss before (ahem, very recently!) but I wanted to pin them together for reference. Do you have a favourite colour combo at the mo? Are you also just in complete awe of everything Alix does? I wish I could skip around Paris, balloons in tow!

The South African Blog Awards (and the awkward ask!)

Hi guys! I hate spamming you with blogging requests so I promise to make it quick. The South African Blog Awards is back and I would love to give ‘em a go. There are a bunch of categories in which to nominate your faves although there isn’t a ‘Lifestyle’ category as such which is where I’d probably place Gloss. If you do fancy nominating me, please feel free to chuck me under which ever category you like - although as regular readers will know, I tend to witter on about clothes and coffee shops more than I do about sports and politics! Perhaps I belong in ‘Personal’, ‘New Blog,’ or maybe ‘Fashion?’ If you nominate me under Photography, I will walk around like a smiling idiot till Christmas.

To be honest, I do feel a twinge of weirdness when it comes to any sort of ‘popularity contest’ but I also believe that initiatives like these give blogs great exposure. I went to nominate my faves and I couldn’t believe how many blogs were already listed there. I clicked on loads of links I’d never seen before and I think that goes to show that there is a definite upside to these things other than prizes!

Before I waffle on any further, let me say thank you, thank you, thank you if you do nominate Gloss! Your support means the world and I truly mean that. If you fancy flinging a vote my way, click here to nominate moi and click here to see a ridiculously cute cat giving you a high five!

Goodies from Nars

On Friday, I received a super package in the post! So super, I had to coax it out of my mom's hands. (Luv you Mama Mia!) Circus invited a bunch of bloggers including myself to do a shoot with Nars make-up for their next Bookazine. The concept behind the shoot is so sweet, I can't wait to tell you more about it! Fingers crossed I can make the deadline (and my minging break out clears up stat!) I decided a while back that if companies ever did send me anything via the blog, I would only post about it if it was something I would personally buy myself. We're all spammed enough with sneaky advertising as it is - I promise I will not be doing that here! Well, Nars is one of those brands I've always wanted to treat myself too. When my mom and I were in the UK, we could only afford a pot of Nars lip gloss - converting pounds into rands is quite traumatic! One lipgloss = a steak dinner in South Africa (not even sure I'm exaggerating!) so to receive this lot is such a treat. Thank you Circus and Nars, I promise to do my best slappin it on. PS: LOVE the rubberized packagaing.

More July Fashion

Hi guys, here are some more snaps from the July. There are no shots of me because I didn't look all that interesting. Just didn't have a sequined horse hat lying around!

A day at the races

Yesterday we attended the Vodacom Durban July! To paint you a picture if you've never been before, imagine a racetrack with horses galloping by, a big old grandstand, loads of party tents and 50 000 people wandering around swigging champers in high heels and trilbys. I did my best to snap some pics while attempting to hold down my skirt in the wind and keep my sunglasses from falling off my nose - glamorous! This year's July certainly lived up to it's theme - 'A blooming great day!'
